![]() It wasn't the gastro experience we hoped for. But here for one week only we were a bit disappointed. If I lived locally I would give it another try. In the end it promised more than it delivered. The more I ate the harder it became to finish it. I wavered over sending it back but thought it may well be deliberate so persevered. Pasta, grouper, prawns, fresh herbs, tomatoes in a delicious broth. The fish stew had lovely fresh ingredients. The lamb shank was sublime, tender in a beautiful sauce. For mains we ordered Lamb Shank and Fish Stew with pasta. ![]() Definitely not bruchetta and not what I would have ordered. I order bruchetta looking for light fresh ingredients. A lemon quarter to squeeze over the croquette maybe but the bbq sauce was too powerful. Then a plate of cod croquettes, also delicious but comes with a bbq sauce. His wife is lovely and both are passionate about the food. ![]() Owner is very active, directing staff and very involved but it's his restaurant so why not. Decor is nice, very friendly and the menu is mouth watering. ![]() Location is a bit iffy but seemed perfectly safe to us. We arrived anticipating the best based on reviews. This obviously made the atmosphere rather sombre and lacking in the buzz that can transform a good evening into a great one. The only significant negative that I have (which is obviously not the management's fault) is that just one other table was occupied for the duration of our visit. During our meal the Chef/ Patron came out to enquire about our experience which is a nice touch. I would describe the service during our visit as "willing" but "slightly erratic" (I think that they may have been training a new staff member). The food was washed down by a rather nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We followed with Pan Roasted Chicken Breast (him) and Oven Roasted Pork Tenderloin (me) both of which were, again delicious. During our visit my partner and I both had cod croquettes as an appetizer and they were sensational. However, the delicious food inside makes a visit well worth while. The technique renders the meat into crispy fried tendrils of pulled pork that are served over a bed of rice and black beans seasoned with a pepper-based vinegar sauce Vega gets from his family in Cuba.As other reviewers have commented, the restaurant is located in a fairly unattractive strip mall a mile or so away from the centre of Wilton Manors & does not look particularly inviting from the outside. Or try the credo asado, confit pork finished in a hot paella pan with olive oil and sofrito. Another house specialty is the fideua negra, a noodle dish with an unctuous sauce of squid ink that's filled with fat chunks of tender squid and octopus. The dish is served from a piping-hot paella pan, blackened rice scraped from the steel and onto your plate. The recipe calls for Spanish Calasparra rice, a pearl-shaped variety that won't stick and allows for the complete absorption of the savory calamari-, clam-, mussel-, and shrimp-based broth. Vega is most proud of his paella, prepared in the style of Valencia. The rustic, red-walled hideaway is accented with handmade wooden wine racks Vega's family china and art made with the corks of emptied wine bottles are evidence of the gastronomic merriment that's taken place over the years. /rebates/&.com252fShowUserReviews-g34741-d1742856-r234932394-CandelaRestaurantandTapas-WiltonManorsBrowardCountyFlorida. A medium-grain rice from Murcia, Spain Mahon, a soft cow's-milk cheese from the island of Minorca smoky pimenton, a type of Spanish paprika and olive oil from Jaen, a city in the south of Spain. What makes Candela so endearing is Vega's knowledge of his painstakingly sourced ingredients. This is the type of experience you'll get from chef-owner Armando Vega and his wife Yudaris, a Cuban-born couple that dishes out authentic Latin and Mediterranean cuisine. You may be familiar with a restaurant where the chef knows your name and delivers your dish as if you were family. Just one block south of Oakland Park Boulevard and over a canal that hems the northern edge of the Island City, you'll find one of the area's best-kept secrets. But at Candela Restaurant in Wilton Manors, you can get an idea of what it's all about. Candela Restaurant 31July2022July 31, 2022Chef Daniel DiazBistro, SpanishCatering, happy hour, Lounge, Outdoor seating, Seafood, Wine list This hidden gem is located in Wilton Manors off the beaten path in a small strip mall and well set up just like in Spain. In South Florida, where the recent small-plate obsession has tainted our palates (and pockets) with pricey, upmarket concept foods, we have no understanding of the Spanish art of celebrating food and drink.
